Combs-Hess Funeral Service (originally Russell County Funeral Home, Inc.) has proudly served families in Russell County, Virginia and the surrounding area since December 1972. We offer your family a full range of funeral services with dignity and professionalism.

History Of The Funeral Home
Russell County Funeral Home, Inc. was founded in December 1972 by James A. Combs, A.D. Castle (Don) and Nathan F. Castle, Jr (June). Together, they proudly served Russell County and the surrounding area until Don’s untimely death in 1989. James A. Combs and Dana K. Combs became the owners in the 1990s and changed the name to Combs Funeral Service.
In January 2021, James A. Combs and his son, James A. Combs, II (Jamie) entered a partnership with Sam Hess and changed the name to Combs-Hess Funeral Service. Sam graduated from Honaker High School and has been in the funeral business for over twenty years. Together, the current owners have over 125 years combined experience in the industry.
The funeral home has always been family owned and dedicated to serving the families in the area with great respect and care.
We are celebrating 50 years of service and we are the only funeral home in the county that has been continuously locally owned and operated. We have never been corporate owned or operated.
