Rhonda Charlene Hicks
July 19, 1956 – July 15, 2023
Rhonda Charlene Hicks, 66, passed away on Saturday, July 15, at the home of her sister Catherine Harper in Bristol, Virginia, after a brave battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Carl T and Madge Hicks of the Belfast community, where she also resided.
Rhonda graduated from Lebanon High School in 1974 and attended Southwest Virginia Community College. She was employed by the Russell County Treasurer’s Office for 15 years until her retirement in 2019. She attended Gracewood Community Church in Lebanon.
She loved attending church, going to country music concerts (especially Alabama), NASCAR, and watching sports. But more than anything, she loved her large close-knit family. Rhonda was the biggest fan of her nieces and nephews as they participated in their school sports, then of her great nieces in ballet and great nephews in football, baseball, and wrestling, and recently of her great-great niece and nephews in T-ball, little league, and soccer. She also loved our big family get-togethers, going on family vacations to the beach, and to Dollywood with the kids.
Rhonda was the youngest of six siblings. She is survived by her sisters Joanne Smith of Bristol, Patsy Vencill and husband Bill of Belfast, Nancy Dye of Lebanon, and Catherine Harper of Bristol, her brother Tom Hicks and wife Regina of Lebanon, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be her beloved nephews Dave Smith, Gary Vencill, Steve Vencill, Greg Vencill, Mike Dye, Mark Dye, great nephews Dylan Smith and Drake Smith.
The family would like to express our appreciation to those who helped care for her during the course of her illness. Special thanks goes to Miranda Thomas, FNP, of Ballad Health Women’s Cancer Center in Kingsport; Rita Clatworthy, FNP, Holston Medical Group; the nurses of Bristol Radiology; and Caris Healthcare Hospice.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2023 in Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Pastor Timmy Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Combs-Hess Funeral Service Chapel and go in procession to the cemetery. Entombment will immediately follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gracewood Community Church in Lebanon, Virginia.
