Rev. Dr. James Belcher

Lebanon, VA – Rev. Dr. James E. Belcher born Jan 18, 1930, in Crumpler WV. He was the son of the late James M. and Lillian M. Belcher. He worked in several coal mines in the state of WV, received his B.A. degree from Bluefield State Collage after which he went to work as a federal mining inspector and later went on to work in Arlington Va. as Chief mining inspector receiving his PH D at Howard University. He was assistant pastor at Second Baptist Church of Falls Church. In later years he became pastor of Emmanel Baptist Church where God used him to bring a community of churches together to build a new Edifus on Cleveland Rd.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; Lucille (Tenny) Belcher; sons: James T., Terry W. (Ruth), Ronnie L., and Johnny Bill (Sandy) Belcher; brothers: William J., Bobby M., Sammel H. Belcher; sisters: Lera Saunders, Eloise Powell, Myrtle Johnson, Sandra Belcher.

He is survived by his son: Danny B. (Janice) Belcher; daughter Linda J. (Charles “Doc” Adams) Belcher; brothers; John M., Shirley, and Lorenza B Belcher; grandchildren: Danny Belcher, Jr., Dwayne A. Belcher, Corey M. Belcher, Kristen King, Brian Belcher, Michael Belcher, Debra Villagomez, Latoshia Belcher (Luke Stillwell), Chris Belcher and multitude of great grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday August 15, 2023, in the Combs-Hess Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Danny Belcher and Rev. William J. Reid officiating. Burial will follow at Ketron Memorial Garden. Military Rites will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 9864.  The family will receive friends from 12:00pm until 2:00pm prior to the funeral service.

Family and friends will Serve as pallbearers.
