Mary Elizabeth Gobble Dickensonville, VA
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Gobble age 75 who slipped into the arms of Jesus on Monday January 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Elizabeth was born in Russell County, VA on October 8, 1949, to the late Turner Gilmer Salyer and Mary Lena Johnson Salyer. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Billy Wayne Gobble by one brother Clyde Dennis Salyer, sister Cynthia Reva Meade, her father and mother-in-law Jeffery Gobble and Mary Blanche Gobble, and daughter Rachel Dawn Boger.
Elizabeth was a lifelong resident of Russell County and was an active businesswoman and loving caregiver to her mother. Elizabeth worked as Volunteer Services Coordinator at Virginia Department of Social Services and was delighted to bring back the Salvation Army back to Russell County and administered commodities to qualifying families. She invested much time in working with the elderly during the Holidays making fruit baskets and Christmas baskets and delivering them. She was a teacher aide at Oak Grove Elementary School, becoming an Accountant working for CPAs in Lebanon and she did bookkeeping and tax returns for notable businesses as well as personal tax preparation for many clients in her own business.
Elizabeth loved camping and fishing. She was a success with catching fish baiting that hook with a crawdad or a hellgrammite. She amazed everyone with her huge bass pulled out of the river.
Elizabeth leaves behind a legacy of love and service to her God, her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, family, friends, and her beloved country.
She is survived by her mother Mary Lena Salyer of the home, three daughters Christine Smith of Castlewood, Anita Fugate and husband Charles of Castlewood, Rebecca Meade of Gate City, VA. Seven grandchildren Nicole Riffle and husband Chris, Mariah Smith, Carlie Alderson and husband Tyler, Ashley Fugate, Kendra Fugate, Melody Boger, and Emily Boger. Three great grandchildren Hailey Dawn Riffle, Ahren Cade Tierson, and Tucker Allen Alderson. One brother Turner Gilmer Salyer, Jr. of Nickelsville, VA. One sister Freda Deel of Glade Spring, VA and several nieces and nephews.
The graveside and burial service of Elizabeth Gobble will be conducted inside Chapel of Love Mausoleum at 2 PM on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA with the Reverend Justin Blankenship officiating.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Alderson, Chris Riffle, Nelson Hayes, Steven Salyer, Roy Salyer, Dwayne Hartsock, Josh Heckford, and Joseph Heckford. Honorary pallbearers will be Gilmer Meade, Guy Kegley, Jr., Wiley Gobble, Billy Stinson, and Greg Stoots.
