James Sutton Easterly, Jr.

Lebanon, VA, James Sutton Easterly, Jr., 89, passed away on March 7, 2024. Like his Father and Mother, James Sutton Easterly, Sr. and Adelaide Hargrave Easterly, he lived his entire life in Lebanon, Virginia, except for his first few years of his life in Denver, Colorado where he was born. Known to many as either “Daddy,” “Jim,” “Satch,” “Mr. Easterly” or “Papaw,” you knew that your question would be answered in a most insightful and thoughtful way. His knowledge and wisdom, not only in business, the Town of Lebanon, and raising his Family will be remembered and passed down to new generations. He was a loving Son, and had an unfailing devotion as a Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather of seven boys- he reminded his Grandchildren that they had given him a basketball team! His love of God through Christ, his love for his Family and Town are well known by many who were touched by his kindness and sincere help when needed. Jim Easterly owned and operated Lebanon Furniture Company, along with his wife Lorene. He was a lifelong member of Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church. He served on the Town of Lebanon Planning Commission for 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Sutton Easterly, Sr. and Adelaide Hargrave Easterly, as well as a great grandson Coleman James Kingery. Survivors include his wife, Lorene Combs Easterly; two loving daughters both of Lebanon, Virginia, Judith Lockridge and husband, Richard Lockridge, and Susan Coleman and husband Timothy Coleman; four grandchildren and their families; Sutton Coleman, wife Jessica Coleman, and son, Theodore of Huntsville, Alabama; Richard Lockridge, Jr., wife Chase Lockridge, and son Sutton of Charlotte, North Carolina; Adelaide Coleman Kingery, husband Reece Kingery, and two sons, Samuel and Luke of Roanoke, Virginia. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at 2:30 pm at the Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church with Reverend Jack Edwards officiating. Family will receive friends prior to services from 1 to 2:30 pm. Burial will follow in Russell Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers are Richard Lockridge, Tim Coleman, Sutton Coleman, Richard Lockridge, Jr., Joshua Busscher and Reece Kingery. Honorary pallbearers are Ron Barrett, Tony Dodi, and Bill Watson. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Gary Thomas and staff of St. Joseph’s/Candler Oncology in Bluffton, South Carolina, Vernell White, and to the caretakers at the home.
