Charlotte Edwards Duty

Charlotte Edwards Duty, 78, of Lebanon, VA, passed away February 28, 2024, in Johnston Memorial Hospital after a long battle with lung disease. She retired from the Russell County Public Library in 2001 and previously worked for Russell County Public Schools as librarian at Lebanon Elementary School.

She took great pleasure in spending time with her family, especially around the backyard flower garden and koi pond. She loved when the hillside came alive with the blooms of flowers, many of which came from her mom and mother-in-law. The sound of the backyard waterfall reminded her of her childhood home. She spent many hours observing the wildlife around the koi pond, and she passed along her love of nature to her grandkids, often quizzing them about the names of flowers and birds.

She was born March 5, 1945, raised in Oakwood, VA, and is preceded in death by her parents, Evans and Edna Baldwin Edwards; one brother, Kilgore Edwards; and two sisters, Geraldine Edwards (Jim) Smith and Wanda Edwards.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles Edward Duty of Lebanon, VA; one daughter, Cheryl Elizabeth (Karl) Martin of Austin, TX; one son, Chad Edward (Angel) Duty of Loudon, TN; two brothers, Victor (Sue) Edwards of Bristol, VA and Quinten (Marilyn) Edwards of Pembroke, VA; one sister, Helen Edwards Thompson of Cedar City, UT; one sister-in-law, Reta Duty Yates of Vansant, VA; and seven grandchildren: Brandon, Chris, Alaina, Seth, Gina, Carina and Caleb. Several nieces and nephews also mourn her loss.

The family will receive friends from 1 pm until 3 pm on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024 at Combs-Hess Funeral Service, Lebanon, Virginia.
