Caroline Kiser

      Caroline Kiser, a revered elementary school, and Sunday school teacher, who had a passion to see her students excel, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the age of 89.  Born in Lebanon, Virginia in 1934, Carrie had a lifelong love of teaching, cooking, quilting and the outdoors.  Through it all, and above all, Carrie loved the Lord, serving Him in whatever way she could at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and in her community.  

        Carrie was a graduate of Castlewood High School, Lees McCrae Jr. College and obtained her degree in education from Radford College.  She was a member of the Beta Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international professional society for women educators.  She taught for 36 years at Castlewood Elementary School.  

        Carrie was a much beloved sister and aunt in the Kiser family, caring for her father in his latter years, maintaining the family home, and being available any time someone in the family had a need.  She was a truly devoted servant of God who loved her family and served them well in every way.  She touched many lives in the family and in the community.  Every family should be blessed with a “Carrie.”

        Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Ernest Kiser and Catherine Jessee Kiser, her brothers:   Millard Kiser (Gertrude), infant brother Horace Kiser, and Garland Kiser (Dorothy) and her sisters:  Frances Meade (Cecil), Lillian Puckett (Herman), Mable Patton (Nick), Effie Taylor (Dennis), Kathryn Harmon (Lee), Irene Jenks (Jake) and Eva Byerley (Rufus).

        She is survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and were greatly influenced by her godly example.  

        Visitation will be on Monday, April 1, 2024, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Combs Hess Funeral Service Chapel in Lebanon, Virginia with a funeral service to follow.  Interment will be at Russell Memorial Cemetery immediately following the service.  Nephews will serve as pallbearers.   

        In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 901, Lebanon, Virginia 24266.
